Spring

I heard a heartening thing in a weather forecast. The first day of spring is tomorrow, on the 20th. It has been a snowy weekend. Not a lot of accumulation, but the travel was tricky Saturday night. I did not expect this, and took William and a friend to the roller rink. No real accumulation was called for so I thought it was safe. Going to pick them up, a car from the other side of the four lane crossed a median and hit the guard rails. It was a bit of a shock (and no, it was not a close call at all). I nervously continued on and before I got there, I also ran into white out conditions. The wind coming across the open grounds of the state hospital whipped the fine snow a whirling wall of snow. I hate whiteouts.

But all's well that ends well. I got the boys picked up. On the way home, I understood why the vehicle had come across the median strip. Those two lanes in were much slicker than the lanes going out, and I haven't a clue why that should be.

It's been a wintry day, today, and I have had absolutely no desire to go out in it.

But...back to the good news...typically speaking (although it is pretty hard to say what is 'typical' anymore), once that first day of spring arrives, the temperature rises (on average) one degree a day for a month. If that holds true, we should see temperatures in the 60s in just 30 days.

That is a pleasant thing to ponder.

  1. We went for a walk in our local nature reserve yesterday and although still cold and damp, there was that smell of Spring in the air, and blackthorn buds showing white.

  2. Wouldn't mind some cooler weather about now. Have been in the 30s (80-90s your money) all week and muggy as. I'd probably not be a fan of the slippery roads or the concept of a white out.

  3. It's been warmer here, though the Blackthornhas yet to follow its rivals over the Camarthenshire border, which were in full bloom last week. Pam and I heard and saw Skylarks on our moorland walk the other day and the first tiny bits of green are emerging in the hedgerows, though most of them at this early date are wild Gooseberry bushes.

  4. Yes, it is a little warmer here too, but that brings more rain!

  5. Happy spring although it doesn’t sound very spring-like there yet. It is sunny here and supposed to go up to 43F.

  6. I believe we got down to freezing here last night. I have a feeling we will be truly well into summer in thirty days.

  7. It's stressful when weather conditions change and you're in the middle of an activity.

  8. Happy you made the drive safe. Before long you will be planning for nicer warmer days. We are to be in the 80's this week, Florida goes up and down, but we really need rain.

  9. I've been mentally in spring for 19 days now, despite the temperatures trying to tell me otherwise.

  10. It was 24 at my house this morning when I got up. However, the high on Thursday is supposed to be 80. Temperatures aside, the allergens have told me it was spring for over a month now. 🤧

  11. We’re getting there! I spent 4 hours cutting prickly branches and raking a couple of days ago, and this week is looking to be very spring-like! Spring is my favorite time of year- so promising, and not yet too hot!Hope your allergies aren’t too bad this year🤞🤗Xo, Ricki in the mid-Hudson valley

  12. I do miss the excitement of spring. Right now our daughter says it's still winter in Chicago.

  13. Well, even if it wasn't a close call, that sounds scary!

A Better Day

First of all, I want to thank every single person who recommended 'Puckoon'. Oh my gosh. It has been a long time since I laughed so...
