In keeping with Neil's challenge, I post two drone videos of the town that I live in.
The first video I post is because it is taken right across the river our house. I suggest turning down volume. I found the music irritating as heck. In the opening minutes, though, you will see William's school, the big castle looking building. Our house is also there.
The second video is more professional and provides a big view of the town.
Warren Pennsylvania has a population of about 9000 or thereabouts. Our town was founded in 1795, and named after General Joseph Warren, a Revolutionary war hero who died at the Battle of Bunker Hill. It is built on the confluence of the Allegheny River and the Conewango Creek We live along the Conewango Creek.
What a lovely looking town, from overhead at least.
ReplyDeleteI was trying to think of some philosophical thing to say about viewing the world with a wide angle lens, but I give up. Have not finished my coffee.
DeleteAh! I had gathered you were in that area, but didn't realize it was Warren! I lived and worked in Warren in the 90s for the manufacturer whose name rhymed with Pennsylvania. I was on my own so I walked around a lot both to work and for recreation. Beautiful old houses, and coming from northern New England, I was most struck by the large number of both bars and churches. Friendly people and co-workers. A lonely time but remembered fondly.
ReplyDeleteHow funny! My husband worked for a time at that self same company. It would have been about 10 years later. We probably have acquaintances in common. I didn't move back to the area until 1997.
DeleteWhat street did you live on?
DeleteThat first video made me seasick!
ReplyDeleteIt does look very leafy from up there.
I know!
DeleteI think I saw your house - with a huge tree beside it? Looks a pleasant area to live.
ReplyDeleteOur house is visible at 4:01. Maybe in other parts of the video, but really, the video was hard for me to watch. It was awfully jerky.
DeleteI'm always amazed at the quality which is obtained by these tiny machines. Looks a nice place to live.
ReplyDeleteWe are, like a lot of small communities, dealing with poverty issues, the lack of living wage jobs. Drugs. Parents struggling to keep roofs over head and food in their family's bellies. Kids left to deal with life on their own as their parents struggle which leads to delinquency. My community is no different from many. Plenty of opportunities to do good here.
DeleteI love the way the river snakes through.
ReplyDeleteThe river is quite a draw. It is a popular kayaking spot.
DeleteI never knew these drone videos were such a thing, but I found a video of my neighborhood too! YP gets credit for putting us onto this idea. I watched the first one -- a little jerky, but interesting! When you said the school was the "castle-like" building, do you mean the gray one?

DeleteIt's nice to literally be put in the picture of where other blog writers live.
ReplyDeleteYes. Do we get any drone pictures of the Irish Riviera?
DeleteBeautiful country! I passed nearby maybe 35 years ago and haven't been back since but we have a little trip cooking that might change that this summer, albeit we will most likely pass by on the opposite side of the mountains. I am looking forward to the drive to fill in more of the mental map I retain of our country.
ReplyDeleteIf you head anywhere in our neck of the woods, I hope that you will let us know. It would be nice to meet for dinner or something.
DeleteOh my gosh! That's amazing. My brother was just over to see a photo he sent me decades ago of the area where our house used to be next to a cane field. It was taken from a police helicopter though. He used to work for the police department.
