In Breaking News...

In breaking news: the cat came back. I'm not sure why. He was not interested in food. Just stopped in to say 'hey', I suppose. I haven't seen him since Saturday morning, so if he's not hungry, he certainly has a home some place else. He came into the kitchen while I bagged up some pumpkin puree for the freezer. He rubbed against my legs and meowed a little and then went back out the door. I'm not sure what to do with him now. Continue treating his mange (which does look better), I suppose.

He's decamped once again.

William is coming after school. He is excited that his books have arrived in the mail. His mother called. He's been taking bagpipe lessons and needs to practice every night for a half hour. It's been a while since we've had a musician in the house.

It is supposed to snow on Saturday, with light accumulations possible. I will not complain...I've read Red's post

    1. Our first 'sticking' snow was a month ago, but I second your 'ugh' and raise you one 'dammit'.

  2. Do you have a soundproof shed for William's bagpipe practice?

    1. He went to a Scottish festival over the summer and got excited to try. We have Edinboro University a couple hours from here. Bagpipers used to get free tuition, but I do not know if that is still true.

  4. On our farm, we used to have cats disappear from time to time. After awhile, I discovered they were going over to the neighbors house... where she fed them half-n-half every morning. She had quite a crowd there.

Those first months of music lessons are brutal. But now that both of my kids have several years under their belts, I enjoy it.

    1. The worst was when my oldest took up a baritone for marching band. She practiced and practiced. There was no tune to the 'music', since it is an instrument that provides the background. It was rather like a flatulent elephant.

    2. Just wanted to comment to say that I saw Weaver of Grass is back. Great news! "Rumors of her demise were greatly exaggerated."

  5. Ash sounds like he's feral and likes his independence yet likes to visit you and never forgets your kindness curing him of his mange.

    1. I'm not sure what he is, but he's made it clear that (for right now anyway) he's going to come and go at his own pleasure, thank you very much, stopping by to say, "Hey...so what are you cooking up there anyway?"

  6. Maybe he's more of a "community cat" than a single-owner cat? Some critters just like their freedom.

  8. Glad to hear Ash dropped by for a visit, and also that he's looking better mange-wise. With the forecast for snow this weekend, it will be interesting if Ash appears at the back door for a little longer visit.
Wonderful to hear that William is excited about the arrival of his books, and it's exciting that he's taking bagpipe lessons. He sounds like such a joyful and well-rounded little fella!
    Stay safe & well.
