Well, after the strange day of the broken leg that wasn't, Tim and I dashed to the store to get sweet potatoes and pecans for the sweet potato souffle, and to pick up a quick throw together supper. Tim picked William up from school.
Today, William is baking 4 loaves of bread, two apple, two pumpkin. We will whip up some cinnamon butter to take along. That is his contribution to Thanksgiving. I will put together a sweet potato casserole, a bowl of cranberry orange sauce. and one stuffed 12 pound turkey. Someone else is bringing a 23 lb turkey. My sister is bringing a ham. There is a family chat group that keeps my phone pinging as someone else offers up yet another contribution to the meal. Nobody will go away hungry.
We will be sitting down to have Thanksgiving dinner with my sister's family once again. Fifty are coming. This is the first year that the party is so large that it has outgrown anyone's house. We will be having it in their church recreation hall.
It is a busy couple of days coming up. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who celebrates it. If you don't, I hope you feel it.
Cat update: I left his door open to give him freedom to explore. Haven't seen him for two days. I know he's around here someplace. He comes back to eat and use his litter pan. It's like having a furry little ghost.
Happy Thanksgiving to you, Debby! Sounds like a fun get-together!
ReplyDeleteI will have 12 tomorrow - mostly family. It will be gluten-free and dairy-free because my daughter has dietary restrictions. I am off to a good start prep-wise and know it will all taste good!
I hope you all enjoy your celebrations. Don't eat too much!
ReplyDeleteWow - 50 is quite a party. Have a wonderful time
ReplyDeleteYour TG celly sounds like hell to this introvert 🥸 but I wish you a good one.
ReplyDeleteI don't suppose there will be lobsters, seal and swan on the menu? That's what was on the Pilgrim Father's menu. Have a great party.
ReplyDeleteIn Maine we have lobster as a predinner munchie in a glass dish along with the celery sticks and olives. We pass on the seal and swan though!
DeleteThe kitten sounds so sweet and so scared. Have a lovely thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteGood to see William joining in the preparation!
ReplyDeleteYour furry ghost might want some giblets. Have a jolly time! Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteHappy thanksgiving to you, Debby. It is a beautiful Thursday here. I wondered why V wanted to know what we wanted for dinner tonight - the penny has just dropped!!!
ReplyDeleteThis year daughter will not be hosting for the first time in 30 years. She loves doing it, but grandson just had knee surgery last week, so everyone is meeting at his house, where his fiance will be getting her feet wet, being hostess - and is probably scared stiff, as she is a young thing and quite inexperienced. Daughter has spatchcocked two small turkeys so she can roast both at once on 2 cookie sheets. Also will be supplying cornbread dressing and potatoes. I am roasting 3# brussel sprouts with olive oil, bacon, pecans, and balsamic vinegar with a touch of honey. One granddaughter is bringing green bean casserole, not sure about other grandaugther. Then we are all going to fiance's family a few blocks away for desserts. Other son and DIL are in Jamaica until after the holiday. It is important to remember that family is more important than rituals carved in stone.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy Thanksgiving.
