Remembered

On NorthStoke's blog, she posted a song to "smooth our day", and it immediately drew me to recollect the music that I smoothed my own days with, back in the day, when many a day needed smoothing.

I'm lucky now. My days run a lot more smoothly, but it made me miss music. I used to listen to music all the time. Now I listen to it in the car. Usually the house is silent. I wonder why?

Anyways, Michael Hedges. His music was amazing, but the thing is that he is a solo artist. You are hearing him playing. Nobody else. Just one man making music.  His right hand and his left hand are playing two different musics, which blend together beautifully. Ethereally. (Is that a word?) He was known as "The Guitarist from Another Planet".
I was awed the first time I heard it, back in the day before there were computers in every home. A couple Windham Hill CDs went with me while waiting for my youngest daughter to arrive.

Shoot.

Now we carry computers in our pockets. My youngest daughter is a grown woman who lives half a world away with her husband.

But even as my world 'smooths', the rest of the world seems to be falling apart.

Michael Hedges died 25 years ago in a car crash. That's another change.

I found myself wandering through the Windham Hill artists once again. The music intertwined with old wisps of memories.

My day was pleasantly smoothed. Thank you, NorthStoke.

  1. He reminds me a little of one of my favorites, Leo Kottke.

  2. I enjoyed this. In a way, it reminds me of some of the guitar work by Kaki King in the film August Rush.

  3. I seldom actually listened to music, and I don't know why either. It is often in my head though.

  4. How sad that such talent was lost at such a young age. A smooth older life is highly desirable.

  5. Enjoyed that Debby, he can certainly play the guitar.

  6. Oh my gosh! What an incredibly talented musician. How very sad that he died so young.

I'm glad you're here!

A Better Day

First of all, I want to thank every single person who recommended 'Puckoon'. Oh my gosh. It has been a long time since I laughed so...
