Argh.

I thought the congressional hearing today was a very good presentation. I don't understand how anybody who watched these can argue that Donald Trump should not have been subpoena'ed.

But. They will.

It was raining for the first part of the day, and that was okay. I had to stay close to home anyway. The gas company was coming to cut the line. We are switching to a different supplier. Tim is convinced it will pay off in the long run, but given the uncertainty of oil supplies right now, I am not sure how it will work out.

So, staying home, I found plenty to keep myself occupied.

I channeled my inner "Pat" today and cleaned out the refrigerator, took it all apart, washed it, reassembled it and, I must say, I did a great job. I'll look like an idiot when I tell  you that I have walked by it a couple times lot of times, and opened the door just to admire its gleaming white interior and the neat arrangement of my foodstuffs.

I also did some cleaning in the basement today.

Laundry, three loads of it.

We didn't know for sure when the gas company was coming to shut off the gas, so I put together a crock pot full of soup from last Easter's ham. Tossed in the potatoes, carrots, celery, cabbage and onion. Seasoned with bay leaves and thyme. Let it simmer all day while I folded laundry and watched the congressional hearings.

Terribly organized, aren't I? I was all set for the shut off.

The gas company stopped by to let us know that they'll be back to do the work tomorrow.

It was a good day for getting things done though.

I was washing supper dishes when Tim pulled on his boots and headed out the back door. "What are you up to?" I asked in an absent minded way. His answer shocked me spitless. I whirled around in amazement and said, "WHAT?????!!!!"

He looked at me confused.

I repeated myself. "WHAT are you doing???!!!"

He said, "I'm cleaning my ditch." He was referring to a small ditch that he had dug to guide the water from the downspout away from the house.

I need to get my hearing checked.

  1. Men love to do jobs like that. As important and soup and a clean refrigerator even though the gas doesn't get shut off.

  2. It's amazing how much you can get done without realizing it, while waiting for something. That's when I usually do my paperwork, which I loath doing.

I'm cleaning my bitch:) Too funny. I hear some strange things sometimes too.

    1. Oh, I didn't hear that he was cleaning his *itch. Let's just say that I heard the first part right. He rarely talks like that.

    1. She wipes out her fridge before every Tesco order. She is amazingly methodical. One thing that I do notice though is that now that I am retired, all those small jobs that I never seem to have got to are finally getting got to. It is a nice feeling.

  5. Good to get things done.
I am trying hard to get things done here, but himself is finding things to do on weekends, and "come and hold this please" just while I am in the middle of something!!!!

    1. It is a good feeling. Every day is the weekend for me. We don't differentiate any more, but the 'himself' in this house is always calling for me to give him a hand at something.

  6. Ha! Well, that sounds like a fulfilling day with time well spent. Now you're prepared for the gas people, at any rate.

    1. Oh, AC. I heard the first part just fine. It was the second part I miss heard. He doesn't usually go outside to clean THAT...

  8. Whenever I clean something out, be it the pantry, a closet, or a refrigerator, I ALWAYS return many times to admire my work. If that makes me an idiot, I'll wear it proudly!

    1. Oh Bob! You are the best! It is such a happy thing when I discover that there are other idiots just like me.

  9. I won't argue with you and think a subpoena is the right call though I'm sure it will never be answered. But I admit I'm a bit disappointed that they never were able to find a smoking gun linking Trump directly. I'm guessing it was in the missing text messages. I'm just hoping the classified documents and the on going other legal troubles are enough to keep him from running in two more years.

  10. I forgot to mention that I really need to clean our refrigerator as well. It always makes me feel better when it is done but it probably won't get done until it is too nasty out to do other things.

  11. I was stuck at home waiting for the gas companies to show up. The fridge got cleaned, the gas companies were a no show. Spent most of today here and got it all done.

  12. I am another who will bask in the glory of a cleaned space.
I cannot comment on your politics as they make no sense to me but I am sure many will - especially those who have no idea what they are talking about.
I can understand your concern at Tim's sudden desire to clean his privates outside!!

    1. Total shock, more like. It's quite out of character for him to talk like that. But he's begun drinking beer, which in our 25 years, he's never done. Retiree gone wild? Who knows what will happen next!

    2. I always clean our fridge out in preparation for the new year and I know the feeling you're talking about.
As for subpoenaing Trump... I can't imagine it will do any good. He will merely plead the 5th... or take the chance and lie.

    3. I don't think it will do any good, really, but I think that it sends a statement. If you paid attention, you see clearly that these events did not unfold by happenstance. They were the response of a man and a party trying to hang on to power, even though the people had chosen otherwise. They lied, and they schemed, and what this last hearing showed plainly that the trump was a key player. He knew he lost. Steve Bannon told us his plan well before election night. It was the plan, and it unfolded just as predicted. People who want to stubbornly cling to their truth that these hearings proved nothing, or that they are disappointed in the lack of evidence are simply choosing not to see what has plainly been laid out for them.
