Thrifty

I had to replace my second crockpot today. It died in the middle of simmering split pea w/ ham soup yesterday afternoon.

Rest in peace, loyal crock pot.

In any case, I set out to replace it today. (Yes. I need two.)

Goodwill always has crockpots, and they did not disappoint. In fact, the one that I got was in perfect shape and it also matches matches the other crock pot that I already have.

I did not need those practically new BearPaw boots but that did not stop them from jumping in the cart with that crock pot and with...what's this? BOOKS??? (How did those things get in there?)

When we checked out the total was still less than the price of a brand new crock pot. I made sure that I pointed this out to Tim right away.

  1. Ours sees little use but I'll keep that in mind if we need a new one.

  2. I knew I was going to like this post the moment I saw the title--good for you Debby, and your soup sounded good too. :^)

    1. The other crockpot contained pumpkin kielbasa soup, which is probably my favorite.

    1. A container of this soup went up to a friend with mouth problems. The rest went into a container for the freezer. It will be a nice supper later this fall.

  4. I must use my crockpots (yes I have two, too) for soup rather than a pot on the stove. I am impressed with how much money you saved in your shopping trip.

    1. The crock pot was only $4. Right now, I have a pot of tortilla soup going. Tomorrow will be potato soup.

    2. PS. It was a false thriftiness since I spent the same money.

  5. Goodwill sounds my kind of place to browse and shop. I never leave a bargain even I already have it.

    1. I do love that store. I buy virtually all of my books and clothing second hand.

  6. My current one is probably ten years old and though it doesn't get a ton of use, it gets used most starting about next month until spring. I really like the new ones by CrockPot with timers and warming features.

    1. I've run through quite a number of crock pots. I think that this is my 5th, since we got married 24+ years ago. Really, crock pot meals were the only way to guarantee everyone got a hot meal when I was working nights, and Tim was working second and the kids were in high school. People coming and going all the time.

  7. I have several different crock pots too as I use different sizes for different meals. I love to fix the crock pot in the morning and then have that good smell filling the kitchen as the recipe simmers all day.

    1. I had a big one and a small one. Now that it is just Tim and I, we rarely used the big one. That is why I was so surprised to pull it out, plug it in and have it stop in mid cycle. So this time, I got another 2.5 quart.
