We had a rare day to ourselves, and so...we hopped in a car and headed north, to the Seneca nation.
They have the best fireworks, so we bought some fountains and sparklers, and spinners, and bottle rockets. They had huge fireworks that cost anywhere from $33. to well over $100. We don't need those...just the small ones that will delight an 11 year old.
We roamed through the massive Salamanca Antiques Mall. We bought nothing, but it is always fun to look. Much to my surprise, we walked out well over two hours later. Time flies when you're gawking.
We stopped for gas on the reservation on the way home. The lines were long. We paid $4.52 a gallon compared to $4.89 in town. We filled the tank, of course, and Tim filled up the little can he uses to mix 2 cycle gas, and the five gallon can that he uses to fill the tractor. 6 gallons of gas in the trunk. 7 packages of fireworks in the back seat. (What could possibly go wrong?)
(Answer: Many things could have gone wrong. Nothing did.)
We drove past our first home together on the way home, and we talked about what an amazing trip it has been from all those years ago. We're lucky.
LOL. I presume the sun wasn't shining just right to start the fireworks show inside your vehicle. Have fun. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteNo sun. It was dark and cloudy with thunder and lightning moving in.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad all went well. We'd be tempted to get gas too at those prices.
ReplyDeleteOur prices in town probably even seem like a great deal compared to prices in Hawaii.
DeleteHave you been listening to The Eagles on your drive out Debby?
ReplyDeleteWell the trip did not make anyone lose their mind, so there's that.
DeleteYears ago, knew young woman, who with a friend, decided to drive around their city throwing lit fireworks out the car window. They had a lapful each of fireworks, plus more between them. What could go wrong indeed?
ReplyDeleteSo, they're having fun until a lit firecracker fell back into car into her lap & then lit more & more. Exciting times within that car !! With
fireworks works popping & sparking, they then plowed thru wall of Chinese restaurant. Oh, and they made front page news in their city paper.
Now that is funny! Mostly because it didn't happen to me.
DeleteI can visualise many different outcomes to this scenario. Thankfully you emerged unscathed.
ReplyDeleteWe still have all our pieces and parts!
Delete2 cycle fuel must be what we call 2 stroke. Lol at the fuel and fireworks in the car. What could go wrong indeed.
ReplyDeleteAt times I am tempted to say how lucky we are, but I stop myself. We both worked very basic jobs, me the same for forty years and I hated the last ten years before I retired. You are not lucky. You have achieved. Though, I do have sympathy for those who don't have the advantageous upbringing that I think we had and I don't mean financial.
Yes. 2 cycle fuel is a mixed gasoline/additive used for the weedeater, chainsaws, the small rototiller, etc.
DeleteI don’t know whether or not to wish that you have a real blast with those fireworks on the 4th.
ReplyDeleteI was supposed to add a smiley or winky or something there. 😀
DeleteWe'll have a fine time. We set off a few of the ones that we had left over from last year, and I don't know what Tim did (I was inside washing supper dishes) but the next thing I know, one of the bottle rockets came close to the car. I don't actually think it would have done any harm, but I heard William giving his grandfather a whole safety lecture. It made me laugh. By the time that I went out to sit on the steps and watch, William had moved the lighting zone to the firepit, and was standing off on the sidelines yelling instructions.
DeleteI paid 4.43 for gas last week and saw it 4.39 yesterday.
ReplyDeleteOur gas dropped 6 cents a gal. last week too.
ReplyDeleteThat was a lot of gasoline in one vehicle. Our gasoline is $1.91a liter. Now mix that with and American gallon and American dollar and you have an all day math problem to make a price comparison.
ReplyDeleteYou are paying more than we are...about $5.60, comparable to what Kay pays in Hawaii
DeleteI've just found out that a US gallon is 3.7 litres and is different to a UK gallon which is 4.5 litres - Is that right? No idea. But I do know we are paying a heck of a lot more than you for filling up the car!
ReplyDeleteYes indeed you are!
DeleteYou mentioning the Salamanca Antique Mall brought up memories of traveling from KC to Dresden,NY on what was Rt 17!! Especially in the fall when the leaf colors are spectacular especially near Bath!!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous!!! Now you've got me very curious!
DeleteThat was my first thought. Full gas cans, fireworks nearby... a recipe for disaster! -Kelly
ReplyDeleteNo disasters happened.
