We set rather an optimistic goal...renovation done by tomorrow.
It will be so close. We laid the carpeting in three rooms today, the one big job left. I have 1/2 of the living room left to stretch and tuck but the two bedrooms are done.
Tim has begun hauling tools out in earnest. We have the dining room to do, which is all cosmetic, really. He hopes to paint tomorrow. I'll scrub the plank floor when he is done. He has an outlet to do, some caulking, some trim work that he decided to do.
Really minor things.
It might truly be done tomorrow!
We have the deck to finish and a sidewalk to level outside. Those things are important, and we'll get them done, but the place is ready for Jim to move in and that was the important thing.
We really are going to take the rest of the summer off though.
I just read the news that Jim Seals died. Seals and Crofts was the first concert I ever went to.
It was 47 years ago. How time does fly.
Amazing voices.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny but they have a song dedicated to their wives, Ruby Jean and Billie Lee. I realized that separately their voices are actually not strong. But together, those two voice blend so perfectly.
DeleteToo many leaving us and not all of them are that old. Well not in my book.
ReplyDeleteI've noticed that the pool of people who are really, really old seems to be shrinking, and not just because they're passing. It just gets harder and harder to call someone old if they are, say, my age...
DeleteSo close.
ReplyDeleteI remember the band but not any of their music including the track you posted.
Probably Diamond Girl, Hummingbird, and Summer Breeze are their biggest hits. My favorite songs were the lesser known ones: Wayland the Rabbit or East of Ginger Trees.
DeleteNew to me...but beautiful singing and songs.
ReplyDeleteWell done on the renovation work.
I'm enjoying following along with your project too.
DeleteWell done on the property renovation. A lot of hard work for you both. You need a holiday.
ReplyDeleteI really am burning out, but next week there is a week away to wallow in grandma time.
DeleteYou shame me in the amount of work you have been getting done as a retiree!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard about Jim Seals. Such a shame.
Nothing like a deadline to move things into high gear. It was June 15th and we made it with a week to spare.
DeleteThey have lovely harmony. I remember their song "Summer Breeze".
ReplyDeleteI hope he had a happy life! Congrats on the finishing of all of that work!
The news sparked me to read about them. Jim Seals and Dash Crofts were both married. Jim was married in 1970, to his wife Ruby Jean. Dash was married a year earlier to his wife, Billie. By all accounts, they had happy and productive lives.
DeleteAwww... I loved Seals and Crofts. East of Ginger Trees was one of my favorites, too. You know, I think I only have their music on vinyl. I might have to go fire up the record player. -Kelly (hesitating to hit publish so I can hear the song all the way through....)
ReplyDeleteOh that's funny! No one I know has ever heard of the song!
DeleteIt's playing in my head right now: "Be lions roaring in the forests of knowledge, whales swimming in the oceans of life......"
ReplyDeleteFunny that we both wrote about our first concerts today! I used to love Seals & Crofts. I had their greatest hits and I think one other album -- "Summer Breeze," maybe?
ReplyDeleteIt made me laugh. Synchronicity. Of course there is a whole 'nuther group.
DeleteI'm running well behind in reading your posts but I'm trying to spend more time in Blogland so will hopefully catch up again.
ReplyDeleteOh Graham. I am not really keeping up at this point either. Truth be told, I haven't had much of interest to tell.
DeleteI'd forgotten about Seals and Croft. I'll have to listen to them tonight.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I was doing last night. I couldn't sleep and well..one thing led to another. They really did have some nice songs.
DeleteWell done on your renovations, and how sad that half a great duo is gone.
ReplyDeleteIt will be a relief to have this in the rear view mirrors. Our last two renovations have had hellish deadlines.
