I watched the first night of coverage of the congressional hearings of January 6th. It is jarring. Even though I watched it unfold on the television a year and a half ago, it was no less shocking to me to see it once again.
What bothers me the most, I think, is that 1/3 of our nation will dismiss this information as fake news. They will still support tRUMP. They will still believe that he is no better or no worse than any other president we ever had.
I will never understand this.
My prediction? Nothing will happen.
It should.
It won't.
Debby, I think you summed up things here very well, unfortunately. I felt everything you said from your first word to your last.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to look at something of this scale and not be saddened to think that nothing will happen. I would give anything to be wrong, but I don't think that I am.
DeleteI so agree!
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to watch the facts unfolding.
DeleteDrats! I was hoping some big evidence, or some one would put the jerk (s) in jail. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteIt is day one. I am curious to see the evidence leading us to the others who are involved. Jordan, Meadows, Thomas, Greene, Bannon. Patience, Linda. I think we're getting there.
DeleteI will never understand that either. The people that are giving testimony are his people, and that will not convince them. I will never vote for him. I cant wait until he is out of politics.
ReplyDeleteThe testimony given was by a british independent filmmaker. The other person was a police officer. They surely didn't qualify as 'his people'. The film maker caught a lot of talk from the Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys that really shed a lot of light on how this all came together. Anyone who believed that this wasn't planned in advance is a fool. Some of the people were wearing printed sweatshirts that celebrated the day. A local oilman here rented a bus to truck people to Washington. Family members were posting that this was the day, and to stay near your television. The posts came down that evening.
DeleteSlippery, greasy, lying politicians. They are the same all over the world.
ReplyDeleteIt's dangerous to classify this as politics as usual. He went beyond the pale. The thing is, simply put, the man wanted to be a dictator. He admired Putin, he admired Kim Jong, he praised their tactics for keeping people in line. He said multiple times to his adoring fans, "Maybe I won't step down. Would you like that?" His crowds all cheered. The rest of us were horrified.
DeleteMy friend, I would hate to disagree with you, yet I wish I could. I cannot. You are correct.
ReplyDeleteYou sure had me afraid for a minute.
DeleteThey may in fact believe that he is the best ever.
ReplyDeleteMany still do. I believe he is an excellent con man.
DeleteOut of curiosity this morning, I went to the Fox News website and saw this on the upper left-hand side: "Democrats are trying to sell something with January 6 hearings." That's all I needed to see, and clicked off quickly.
ReplyDeleteYou're a braver soul than I.
DeleteExactly how I felt. Know it to be true and unbelievable at the very same time.
ReplyDeleteThat is an interesting way to phrase it, but you are right. I watched it unfold in real time in total disbelief.
DeleteI watched some of it and I’m in agreement with you. The only thing I have been wondering is what is the purpose of it all? The former President was already impeached and is no longer in office. It isn’t for a criminal trial. It just seems to be a big “I told you so,” sort of event. I suppose it could prevent him from running for a second term, which would be a great thing, but if I were a Democrat, I think I would want him to run again so it would be an easy election for the democratic challenger.
ReplyDeleteI am a democrat, Ed, and I would never want to see him run again. He has an awful lot of crazy supporters, and they come out of the woodwork and do crazy things. I do not see what the purpose is, myself, but I do believe that the facts all need to be out in the open.
DeleteI truly think he has a good chance to win the next election. And that scares me.
DeleteI'm hoping there will be enough dirt/evidence to convince him not to run again if nothing else comes of this affair.
DeleteBy the way, I finished watching the rest of the primetime special session today. Definitely seems like there was planning (for Jan 6th) going on as far back to right after the election though I have yet to see any evidence that Trump planned it as he was impeached for. I would like to know if anyone in his administration master minded it or if they just embraced something that grew from a local level.
I'm going to disagree with you there. I see plenty of trails leading right back to him.
DeleteDonna W. Now you have scared me.
DeleteI think it will make a difference as it exposes the people who were also involved. I think it will lead to charges against the former president and some of the co-conspirators and/or legislation to prevent future events like this. I want it recorded in history like this so all details are out in the open.
ReplyDeleteI do want it recorded in history as well.
DeleteActually, the REALLY scary thing is that so many of them think Trump is FAR better than any other president we've had. They think he's our national savior!
ReplyDeleteThat is true. And so many of them call themselves Christians. That's the part that I don't understand.
DeleteUnfortunately you are right about not much will be done. But still I hope that Merrick Garland was watching and will be able to indict 45 anyhow – this way he would not be able to run again. I watched the hearings last night then went online to read comments – it was so sad reading so many comments saying the hearings were lies. The problem is that the people needing to watch won’t because of Fox News. It really is a treasonous channel with a cult following.
ReplyDeletehttps://hearyourselfthink.org/fox/ This nails it, right here.
DeleteEven in Australia there are some that think he is god. The man is dangerous.
ReplyDeleteNo disagreement here. Narcissists in a position of power are hugely destructive.
DeleteI have given up on politics; it is too depressing and too out of our control. Most of all it makes me ill.
ReplyDeleteYou said:
I will never understand this. (Same here!)
My prediction? Nothing will happen. (Never a truer word...)
It should. (Except maybe that one..)
It won't. (No, that's the one.. the real sad truth)
Take care, M
I hold out hope that justice which moves very slowly will ultimately prevail in some form or another. I have little expectation that many of those who are caught up in our ex-Pres' spin will see the light of day any time soon, if ever.
