It was a big weekend. A birthday. An anniversary.
It was also a working weekend.
Today, before starting work, I took a run to Tractor Supply to buy some medicine for that cat. I also bought some of the fancy cat food. I figured that would guarantee that he got the whole dose. Tim flinched a little at the register, but I reminded him that it was a special weekend.
I looked for that cat when I got home. Tim said, "Well, he's around here somewhere. The robins are all riled up."
Not much later, I saw a black cat sitting under the truck. I went in and mixed up the medication into his food and set it outside for him, and ducked back into the house so as not to scare him off.
That cat so loved the fancy cat food that he carried the dish away to lick it clean.
I'd have been thrilled about this, except for one thing: It seems that I've been feeding more than one black cat, and the cat that got dosed was not the right black cat.
Nothing is ever as easy as you think it's going to be, is it?
We worked at the apartment. It's a good feeling to be at the 'putting it all back together' stage.
I had to chuckle at the cat(s). You are a kind soul and every cat in the neighbourhood knows it!
ReplyDeleteI am happy to report that I'm not the only kind soul in the neighborhood!
DeleteToo funny. Well you know that at least one black got a very tasty treat today.
ReplyDeleteAnd a dose of anti-parasite.
Deletethose cats sure had you fooled!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, Red, it doesn't seem to be all that hard to do!
DeleteIf you were trying to give mange medicine, maybe the non-mangey black cat will have extra thick hair next time you see it. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteDewormed, as well!
DeleteAll the local black cats will be queueing up at your house now.
ReplyDeleteThey are kind of everywhere. Sadly.
DeleteLooks like the feline grapevine is working...cat friendly house here!!
ReplyDeleteThey do seem to figure it out in short order.
DeleteI began to suspect. There is nothing as crafty as a cat - especialy if it is expensive cat food you are waving under his nose.
ReplyDeleteI need your keen instincts, Pat.
DeleteErr, yes of course you would go to a tractor supply shop to buy pet food.
ReplyDeleteWhen one black cat it is not enough...
Tractor Supply is a big box department rural chain that probably does sell tractor supplies but also all manner of farming, gardening, and animal/pet supplies. Kind of like Canadian Tire where you can also purchase very nice curtains and bathroom rugs.
DeleteOh, don't forget $27 for medicine. I also had to stop at a big box store to buy an infant dosage syringe. And math. I had to do lots and lots of math to come up with the dosage to treat a 5 lb animal. Tractor Supplies here sell all sorts of things for farmers, not just tractor parts. Animal feed, to include cats and dogs too.
DeletePS: Thanks anonymous. You have it exactly right!
DeleteI stopped feeding the stray cats after the canetoads started to line up for their share too...
ReplyDeleteUgh. Cane toads! I remember your sister's pictures. UGH!!!!
DeleteHa! Well, perhaps you've headed off a case of mange in the second cat as well! Do you still have enough of the meds to get them to your intended patient?
ReplyDeleteSteve, believe it or not, I bought the smallest bottle of Ivermectin they had. It was for cattle and the dosage was in increments of 220 lbs. (10 ml.) Coming up with the dosage for a 5 pound cat took some math work, and an infant dose syringe, but I got it figured out. (.25 ml) Since my bottle treats 10 cows, I've got enough to treat every cat in the county, I'd imagine. It is a dewormer/antiparasite, and something that I will always associate with our former president.
DeleteI guess I didn't realize Ivermectin was for mange, too. Yep... we use it for worming cattle. -Kelly
DeleteYep. Right on the label they list mites and lice.
ReplyDeleteThat dual black cat problem happened once at my house. The sly devils pulled it off for several months, until the time I opened the door to let the cat out and his twin sat on the mat, waiting to come in.
ReplyDeleteDo you suppose the have come east?
ReplyDeleteThe word Cat is synonymous with clever and crafty. Cunning also.
