So. I'm tired.
You know how I know I'm tired? I know I'm tired when I look around and see how many clocks have stopped because I've forgotten to wind them.
That always makes me grumpy at myself.
But today at lunchtime, the local high school put out a bulletin that any student that felt the need to leave school could, but they were suggesting that parents make sure the kids were not alone, and that grief counselors were at a local church.
WTH?
Startled, I began scrolling through social media and found out in pretty short order that a 14 and a 15 year old student have committed suicide in unrelated incidents in the past two days.
Now I am just sad.
Student suicides are devastating.
ReplyDeleteThat's so awful. Those poor families and the friends of those kids, and everyone really. Suicide pain ripples out in ever widening circles, touching even those not directly related to the person.
ReplyDeleteSad and awful. The school where my sister teaches had a spate of student suicides. It is devastating for staff and fellow students alike.

ReplyDeleteWe just cannot understand the educational pressures. We can understand the worries about the world, because we worry too...but we can't help.
One of our cycling teammates committed suicide ... it still leaves his parents drained, years afterwards. As a team we still miss him.
Your work pattern sucks. Not long now, thankfully.
I am so sorry for the families and friends of those students that died. It is so tragic.

In a local school near us, two 16 year old students decided to kill their Spanish teacher and so meticulously planned and carried it out on social media. They are now sitting in jail with $1 million bond each. Times like these make me wonder what the world is coming too.
ReplyDeleteConcentrate on the joyful bits - a party for a hundred sounds a lot of fun. I can't remember when I last went to a big party. Pre-covid, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteThe young seem beset by pressures and worries that were unknown in my childhood. There is always something, my childhood was war followed by post-war deprivations.
Oh, that's horrible. A permanent solution to a temporary problem, as is often said.
