Argh.

Mandatory overtime for Saturday AND ten hour days next week.

This is not cool.

  1. Unbelievable. I hope you are well compensated for all these hours.

  2. But think of all the money you're going to earn!

  3. I'm very glad that I have the majority of my Christmas shopping done. I keep reminding myself of the money I'm socking away for my trip. And, I keep counting down: 41 more days.

  4. I was just going to say - just do what you have to do….and think of pay day……..plus leaving it all behind day.

  5. Hope you can retire from that place soon. I'd be so livid with day-before announcements of working extra, and being strung through 10-hour days next week. This employer is functioning on an almost illegal basis. The owner must have no other life. Protect your's. Even though the owner isn't giving you notice, you probably have to give 2 weeks notice (put it in writing, with their accepting signature on your copy,) in order to resign. That way you get whatever paid time off you've accrued. Good Luck! Goodness! Linda in Kansas

  6. That is wrong!
    You are the modern slaves.
Is this company finishing when you do? Treatment like this should not exist

  7. Err, you must work overtime? You don't have a choice? Extraordinary. So it is compulsory overtime.

  8. I wouldn't put up with that. No way.

  9. I can walk away any time I want. Don't think that I have not thought of it. But in the end, practicality wins out. I am planning a wonderful trip...if covid doesn't spoil things. I'm on the down hill side of this. Stay the course. When it's done, I will be glad I stuck it out. Just really sucks that it is happening during the holiday season.

  10. What is the ratio of what you earn to what the firm earns from you?

  11. The company declared bankruptcy a couple years back. They have moved their warehouse to a cheaper tax state. They are teetering on the brink. They are trying to make it all work, but to be perfectly honest, I don't see how that can happen. They are in a grave state.

  12. Good that you can take these long hours and turn them into a fabulous trip! It will be worth it in the end. Hang in there!

  13. Ten hour shifts are hard to do every day - years ago, I used to work 12-hour shifts but it was 3 days on and 4 days off.. then 4 days on and 3 days off... The balance was actually quite good.
    Keep counting down.

  14. You need a union!!

So, do you get penalty rates if they are asking this amount of overtime from you?

I do hope that it is decent - and that you have the right to say no if it affects other plans that you have.

If this was the way that they have treated workers throughout, they really should not be in business. They need to have more staff and less overtime, methinks.

  15. In my part of the world, you get fired for talking 'union'. They get pretty perturbed about people who consider themselves the voice of the people. I am having a good time with that one.

I'm glad you're here!

A Better Day

First of all, I want to thank every single person who recommended 'Puckoon'. Oh my gosh. It has been a long time since I laughed so...
