Cider with Rosie

A couple weeks ago, Northsider discussed an author I had never heard of. I googled Laurie Lee and ultimately ended up ordering a book, a one volume collection of his autobiographical trilogy.

I am currently immersed in 'Cider with Rosie', and it is beautiful, a perfect book for winter evenings.

  1. It is a twentieth century classic Debby. I love that book.

  3. Resulting from your, Northsider's and other's bloggings, I added Laurie Lee's "Village Christmas" to my Christmas wish list. I enjoyed Cider With Rosie some time ago, often considered the first of an autobiographical trilogy. I read the three collected together in "Red Sky at Sunrise" and (if I may be so bold) wrote a short review of the three here: https://www.taskerdunham.com/2017/12/review-laurie-lee-red-sky-at-sunrise.html

  5. Yes, a true classic. I have not read all his books though and really ought to. So many books - not enough time!

  7. Your review is very nice, Tasker. I can see this as a book to reread over and over in front of a fire.

The only sad thing is that, really, he was a bit of a bastard in real life, wasn't he? Creative genius and destructiveness often go hand in hand. I wonder why that is?

  9. There was a tv serie of ‘as I walked out one midsummermorning’ while Laurie
Lee read his book. I was completely lost, bought his books in English and Dutch. When I read them I still hear his deep voice. I would love to hear him read his books again!
