Shameful admission: I've never read 'Watership Down'.
I remembered this only when I was looking in the used book section and found it there waiting for me.
I am currently caught up in a wonderful story. It's so good. I don't know why it has taken me 40 years to get around to reading this.
The author once lived in the house next door to our previous home. It is said that he was inspired to write the book by seeing all the rabbits in his garden. We did get rather a lot of them.
ReplyDelete!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOops, just checked my facts. He actually wrote A Nature Diary when living next door. He had already written Watership Down by then..

I never read it either. Now I will.
ReplyDeleteLet me know what you think.
DeleteI still haven't read it.
ReplyDeleteI am losing track of what I have read and what I have not read! I have found myself reading a book and thinking "this sounds so familiar" and realizing that I have already read it! But then I can't remember how it ends so I usually read it again anyway...
ReplyDeleteIt was one of my late husband's favorites and he wasn't a reader. I've never read it either.
ReplyDeleteI read it many years ago -- I think I was in middle school. I loved it! I'm not sure I fully appreciated its symbolism and allegories, though.
ReplyDeleteAfter sitting on my shelf for more than twenty years, I finally read it about nine years ago. It made my top ten favorites from that year. Better late than never.
ReplyDeleteArt Garfunkel 'Bright Eyes' comes to mind Debby.
ReplyDeleteAnd when you're done with that:
ReplyDeleteThe Brave Little Toaster by Thomas M. Disch
(a fairy tale for small appliances....)
I have to be honest and say I haven't read many of the 'classics'! I love reading but I didn't do much when I was younger which is really when you tend to read these things. Now its all Danielle Steele and the likes. I might try to download this to my kindle and give it a try on your recommendation!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read it either and probably won't I guess. I prefer non-fiction for my entertainment.
ReplyDeleteThe Plague Dogs by the same author is another really good read.
ReplyDeleteIt took me years before I finally read this great story. I listened to many people talk about how good it was.
ReplyDeleteNorthsider, it was a nice video, but I loved watching the snippets from the movie. I think when I'm done, I'd like to see the the movie. It is beautifully animated.
ReplyDeleteI'd be interested to hear what the rest of you think.
Ed...you sound like Tim.
I did love that book and enjoyed the animated movie based on the book too. I looked at bunnies a whole different way after reading it.
