Summer's End

When I went to the garden after the frost, I picked all the beefsteaks, and brought them home. Green or not, I figured they could ripen inside, and they did.

I've been having one of my favorite breakfasts, which is coffee (no brainer!) and toast with a thick slice of juicy ripe tomato on it. Just the slightest smidge of mayo, and grind some black pepper over it all, and you have the breakfast of champions.

This morning, I noticed that I only have one more tomato left. Just one.

  2. I had fried tomatoes for the first time for ages and they were so nice. If I could be bothered, I would fry them to go on toast in the mornings.

  5. I certainly hope YP was being facetious.

Even if they hadn't ripened, Debby, green tomatoes make a good chutney or relish (chow chow).

  6. I have never had that for breakfast but I could give it a shot. Good luck making that tomato last as long as possible.

  7. I have just one left in my veg drawer in the fridge - might do that with it in the morning. Thank you

  8. I have never thought of having that for breakfast. I am a stick-in-the-mud Cheerios kind of eater! I need to break out of my boring eating routine, maybe, as you made the tomato sandwich sound so tasty! :)
