Adventure.

Northsider did a post about songs that 'follow' us. I've been thinking about it. I really don't have a song that's followed me, but the Doobie Brothers really could provide a sound track for my life. It doesn't seem to matter what song I hear, it always seems to unpack a memory.

His post got me wondering about the band and so I did some checking and discovered that they are playing outside Pittsburgh in September. I made a mental note to talk to Tim about that.

Like a great many of my mental notes, I promptly forgot about it.

Tonight Tim was fretting about our anniversary. "I don't even know what to do about that."

It's a busy time. I've got a 55 hour work week this week. We've got a garden to start getting in. We've got another project to finish up. By the end of the day, the very last thing we'll feel like doing is getting gussied up to go out and celebrate.

I said, "Hey. Do you like the Doobie Brothers?" (He did.)

I brought up the website and showed him. He read up on things and said, "Go ahead and get the tickets."

Things should be a lot less hectic in September, and by the fall, we should have a clear idea of how this covid thing is going to shake out. It feels like forever since we had an adventure.

  1. That's something to look forward to then. I remember the name Doobie Brothers but not their music and I'm afraid if I Google, a song will go around in my head all afternoon.

  2. Imagine seeing a classic band live again? I think if a busker started playing everyone would cheer and give a rapturous reception and applause. I hope the good old days are just around the corner.

  4. Some of the buskers/street musicians are so great! I love that. New Orleans has some great ones. In New Orleans, I was walking down the street with my daughter and I heard a voice. I stopped dead in my tracks and there, on the other side of the street was 'Grandpa Elliott' (See him here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Us-TVg40ExM) Cara said, "What?" I said, "That's Grandpa Elliott" and she said, with exaggerated patience, "Mom, grandpa's dead and his name wasn't even Elliott...." I shot across the street and I got to speak with him on his street corner. One of the many highlights of the trip for me.

  5. I never heard the expression "gussied up" before but I rather like it. In England, at least in relation to women, we would say "dolled up" or "tarted up". Thinking of words, make sure you have a few doobies in your purse when you go to see The Doobie Brothers in concert!

  6. Although I have heard of them, I am not familiar with them. Even googling and seeing their titles doesn't bring back memories. Alas, I have lived a sheltered life.

  7. Ah those days are past, YP...although there was that one time a carload of soldiers stationed at Ft Sam Houston heard China Grove on the radio nd got the fine idea to go looking for it. (Spoiler alert: no such place.) After a long night of high spirited searching, we consoled ourselves with some fine herb.

  9. For me anyway, the Doobie Brothers is one of those bands which I like just about every single song they every sang, but just not in a way to make me buy an album. But the song that gets me the closest to wanting to purchase is "Black Water". I can always hear them catfish a jumpin'.

  10. I remember going to a Doobie Brothers concert years and year ago and I wasn't able to hear for 2 weeks as we sat too close to the front speakers! But their music was great! A nice way to celebrate your anniversary!

  13. Awesome. Great news, Debby. I hope you and Tim have a wonderful time. Mrs. Shife and I were supposed to go to a concert this month but it got pushed back to the fall. Really looking forward to seeing live music again.

  15. I've seen the Doobies in concert, many years ago, when they weren't a classic band. :) Enjoyed the music, did not enjoy my blind date.

  16. 'It feels like forever since we had an adventure'

I feel like that. Yesterday I stayed out on my van with the dog till midnight, just watching the sun godown and then reading with a light - a mini-adventure of sorts.

  17. Fun! They were SO popular in their day -- their songs awaken memories in my mind as well.

  18. Next time I settle down alone with a beer (that'll be tomorrow then, while the lady is left in peace to watch the dreadful Eurovision song contest) I will be giving the Doobie brothers a listen via the internet, hopefully...(at least for a while)
