Water

A local man came up missing last month. He's not yet been found although his bike was found in a local park a half mile down river from us.

Now that the weather is warming up, there have been a number of helicopter searches. It seems that bodies of the drowned rise to the surface when it warms up.

Last Sunday, a woman went missing. She is reported to have been last seen on a path by the river.

I watched the water through the back door glass yesterday as I painted. Melting snow and runoff has made it high and fast and muddy and it made me shiver to think of the secrets that water holds.

  1. I shiver here in the UK at the very thought.

  2. As a kayaker, I knew a (thankfully small) number of people who have drowned; water's power is immense and yes the secrets the hold. In Africa the kayakers would wear a Nyami Nyami 'rivergod' necklace - a sort of dragon with a fish's head

  3. It is horrible to think about those last moments.

  4. Sombre thoughts. Several unfortunate and desperate people jump from a bridge over the River Tay near us each year, and tend to wash up not far from my golf course. The circling search helicopter indicates they're looking for another one. Dreadful.

  5. Sad and terrible at the same time. Is the river at fault or is it suicide?

  6. There has been nothing released that indicates whether or not the people were struggling. The water is high, but people just don't go on it at this time of the year. Too cold. Too dangerous. It would be a horrible way to die, but it would be horrible to grapple with the depression that leads to such an act.

  7. I have known two people who have drowned in the sea. Not far from where I live many years ago a woman was swept into the sea and was never seen again.

  8. Sometimes the bodies from Kansas City wash right down here a mile or two away from my house. It's almost time for morel mushrooms, and many years there is a body found somewhere in Missouri by trespassing mushroom hunters.

  9. The two ways I don't want to die are by water or by fire. Maybe wind, but I've outlasted three tornadoes.

  10. I agree with Joanne in that drowning seems like a horrible way to die. How awful that bodies surface in the spring when the water warms up.

  11. If you go walking by the river Debby, please wear a lifebelt.

I'm glad you're here!

A Better Day

First of all, I want to thank every single person who recommended 'Puckoon'. Oh my gosh. It has been a long time since I laughed so...
