Valentine's Day

After 23, going on 24 years, romance looks a little different than it did in the early days.

I got a dozen red roses which I arranged in the vase with the remaining flowers from the last bouquet.

We exchanged cards.

I cooked a special meal: venison steaks marinated in garlic butter for the day.  I salted and peppered them and put them under the broiler for 3 minutes each side. They were tender and flavorful. Tim couldn't stop raving about them.

This is how I cemented my position as Tim's one, true Valentine for yet another year.

  2. That is romantic. My husband does not "do" romance but he does catch spiders for me.

  3. I catch spiders and bats, carry coal, weed and let my wife Hoover when I am in my polytunnel. Who can say romance is dead?

  4. Ha! I thought the same thing Margaret did! We completely ignored Valentine's Day here.

  5. A nice celebration. My wife hightailed it out of here yesterday (Valentine’s Day), going to Atlanta for a few days to help Older Son and his family as they catch up with work after recovering from COVID. We went to lunch Saturday at one of the only places in town where we feel comfortable (all the tables and booths have plexiglass around them) and called that our V-Day dinner, also the 37th anniversary of our engagement. I got her some flowers earlier in the week so she could enjoy them before she left. And I stuck a card in her bag that she would find when she unpacked.

  6. As is often said in Britain, the way to a man's heart is through his stomach.

Historically, the whole Valentine business in Britain did not concern married people so Shirley and I are in the habit of simply ignoring all the razzmatazz. We will have been married for forty years later in 2021. Some men get less time for murder.

  7. Fortunately, our local convention center offered up a four course meal to-go for a price so I picked up that for our supper. Since it was something like 8 below when I picked it up, the entree had to be reheated and being fish, wasn't perfect, but the rest of it made up for that. And it beat slaving away in the kitchen beforehand cooking and afterwards doing dishes.

  8. To commemorate the day, Sue and I greeted each other when we passed in the hall.

  9. I trust that because it WAS Valentine's day, you and Sue greeted each other especially warmly!

Ed, I would never complain about a meal that I didn't prepare! I'm a real fan of not having to clean up too. It works on all levels.

  10. Sounds good! Winder what you’ll do in another 24 years?
