Just Do It

It has been a busy week, and I did not have as much time to devote to my books as usual. So I got up with Tim this morning at 5AM with every good intention really hitting those books hard.

What I have discovered is that I can find an awful lot of things that I should be doing when there is something that needs doing that I don't want to do. Finally, I reached the point where there was nothing left that needed doing but the thing that I didn't want to do, not really, but with great resolve I sat down and did it.

In answer to your question on my blog: the houses are as wonky as they look. They are built with wooden frames, often with wood that wasn't seasoned as it would be today. As a result the beams twist and distort as they settle down over the centuries. Far from being unsafe some of these houses have stood for over five-hundred years and, as long as they are lived in and cared for, are good for a few more centuries yet.

  3. I'm pretty good at procrastinating, especially when I get burnt out on a project. I've learned over the years that I'm better off just to walk away for a week and then come back. Nine times out of ten, I will have regained my enthusiasm for whatever I had been procrastinating on. Of course, we don't always have the luxury of walking away a week.

  4. I don't, but I am always enlivened by the class discussions, which sort of rekindles my enthusiasm on a weekly basis. It's just that the authors of the two books I am reading seem to want to make controversies over things that really are kind of silly and in my mind do not affect the narrative at all. In these controversial times, the very last thing I can bring myself to do is attend to yet more controversy.
