Buttoning up

We spent the weekend working on the garage. The rafters are all up and we have begun sheeting it. The 3 loads of rough cut are just about gone. I have a list to drop off at the sawmill. We should be able to finish it up on this next three loads of hemlock.

We caught that woodchuck in the havahart. Pretty late in the season to do the garden much good. We relocated him. He was a very curious critter. He scooted out of the trap but stopped maybe 15 yards away to study us as we gathered up the trap to leave. A buck watched us from the treeline.

We ended up picking all those vegetables anyway. We had a hard frost Saturday and Sunday. We could hardly believe our eyes.

Adds a sense of urgency to the multiple projects going on there. We have got a lot to do before winter.

I drove home and noticed the patches of red on the hillsides. It just doesn't seem possible. As for right now, I am up to my armpits in tomatoes.

  1. Amazing the difference in seasons between here and there.

  2. Please hang onto the frosts for awhile longer. I'm not ready. I don't think I have ever seen a woodchuck outside of a commercial on television.

  3. REALLY???? They honestly don't have woodchucks there? That is astounding to me. Off to google woodchucks.

  4. Well, you had me googling it, too. I don't guess I realized a woodchuck and a groundhog were the same thing. We don't have them where I live, but according to the map at the Wiki page, they're just to my north.

  5. Like Kelly, I didn't know they were the same thing as a groundhog. I have seen ground hogs though mostly in a zoo setting and from travels out west. We do have them in parts of Iowa, but from where I am from, I have never seen one out in the wild nor evidence of a colony.

  6. They are solitary creatures. We have a lot of them, but they are not a colony. Just a cluster of them in our area. We got a picture of a coyote coming up the driveway last week, and have seen signs that he's sticking close by. Maybe that will thin out the ranks a bit.

  7. Great info on woodchucks. I don’t think we have them
around here either, but we have beavers, along with deer, foxes, turkeys and coyotes. I’ll not mention my mortal enemies, squirrels and skunks.

  8. LOL. Can't help it Bob. Envisioning you locked in mortal combat with squirrels and skunks just tickles my funny bone.

I'm glad you're here!

A Better Day

First of all, I want to thank every single person who recommended 'Puckoon'. Oh my gosh. It has been a long time since I laughed so...
