Where there's smoke....

This is the normal view from Washington Park, which is a park that overlooks our town.

This is the same view today.

The haze is smoke from the wildfires in Canada.

This smoke has traveled hundreds of miles and crossed Lake Erie. They say that the fires are larger than the state of Maryland. My sinuses are irritated and my nose is running. I cannot imagine how bad things must be for the folks who actually live up there.

The basement is done. I'll be spending the day up there, and I will get pictures.

Have a good rest of your day.

  1. The smokey air is bad up here too- no gardening for the last few day! Which is a bummer- I was so happy about the forecast of cooler weather this week, but I just don’t want to spend any time outside now🙁- plenty to do inside though, as always! Xo Ricki

  2. Smoke that hangs around for days is painful, and everything starts to smell of smoke, never mind the health issues it can cause.

  3. We had that smoke earlier in May, it was awful and hurt my eyes. I think it's going to get worse as the years go on sadly.

  4. The smoke has made it all the way down here to SC, too, and we're under air quality advisories. My allergies and asthma are flaring. Bad stuff.

  5. Better to have the smoke in your neighbourhood than the fire I suppose, but irritating nonetheless.

  6. You won't be singing "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" or "Smoke On The Water" Debby. Look forward to seeing the latest building photos.

  7. I think it's worse on the East Coast than it is where the fires are burning. The air currents and wind have blown the smoke your way. I checked yesterday and Toronto was 100 whereas NYC was 258. Hope it dissipates soon. Our turn will be coming soon I'm afraid. :(

  8. Some of that smoke blew all the way here a couple days ago and I could see wisps of it at ground level though it wasn't nearly as bad as your picture or what I have seen on the news. We were supposed to get more of it yesterday but didn't. Today, it is back but high up in the sky. The sun isn't visible but I can't smell it either. I've made use of the day by doing some neglected outdoor projects I've been saving for a cooler overcast day.

  11. I remember being in Aotearoa NZ when the fires were in Australia...the small and dust even made it to there, it travels much further than we can ever imagine

  12. Parts of it are even in K.C.! I coughed Sunday which flared my asthma, but couldn't tell why. We had one of the air pressure smashing the pollution down days. Now the smoke particulate bothers us. I'm wearing my N95 mask to go outside now! Mask up to minimize health issues! Linda in Kansas
