Vanity

I've had a damaged tooth for twenty years now, right in the front. I was never happy with it, but I never did anything about it. It was one of those things that was not a necessity. It was pure vanity. It seemed selfish. Today, my tooth was fixed. I'm surprised at how glad I am about that.

Wow, I'm really impressed. I'm proud that you did something just for you. But for the record, eres hermosa por dentro y por fuero, Madre.

I have no idea what Cara just said, but I shall get to and fix that tooth digitally at my place when I get home. Deal?

Well, as one who is married to a dentist, is also a huge dento-phobe (oh yes, big family joke I actually married one) and who bashed in her front teeth when she was eight, I get it. What did you get done? Crown? Veneer? Composite? You're going to discover that people won't notice what you did, but that something is different. They'll ask if you got your hair cut, or mention you look good without knowing why. Even my own mother didn't notice at first when I got my front teeth fixed in my twenties! You'll also discover that you're going to smile more and people will respond to you differently. I wrote a newspaper article about it, and I couldn't believe the response from people with similar stories.

Yay for you!!

I think I know what this is like. I had a discolored (capped) tooth in front until I was in my twenties. Novel woman was right--most people aren't as aware of it as you are, but it feels great to get it done.
