We had an earthquake.

I missed it. I was working in the computer lab in school and did not feel a thing.

How about you, NW? I understand it was a 5.0 where you were. Now there's a blog post. Or are you still in Las Vegas?

Wow! We've had earthquakes here a few times, but I've never felt a thing.

Yup, we had one. Eldest felt it and watched her computer monitor shake. Two employees from Spain ran out of the building, as they have seen the effects of earthquakes.

My son felt it and watched stuff in his apartment rattle and roll. My sister in Kitchener Ontario felt it and her son was evacuated from his building.

Me? I didn't feel a thing. Must be my big bottom. It cushioned the blow.

Only thing I got is that the North Island of New Zealand had a humdinger of a 7.2 earthquake on June 24 back in 1942!

Wow, that's definitely a first!

I'm sorry you didn't get to feel it. Earthquakes are common here, moreso even than in California. So every time we feel things start to shake, we think, "oh, just another little shaker..."

But you always wander, because you know that sooner or later, the big one is going to hit again. Sometimes, when things really start to get going, the light fixtures are swinging and the house just keeps rolling and throbbing, you get really worried and think this really might be it.

Then it subsides, and you are glad it wasn't - but you know its coming again, just like it did in 1964.

You know, Bill, I remember, as a little girl reading all about the Alaskan earth quake in My Weekly Reader. And then it got me thinking. Do they even still HAVE Weekly Readers? So then I had to google this to find out, and you know what? They do still print My Weekly Reader. Anybody else out there still remember that?

Dang. Some folks will do anything to avoid studying, won't they?

Gosh - that is ONE thing we don't have here. Apparently Canberra (capital of Oz) has earthquakes... actually they had one there this week. It just wasn't Mother Nature at the helm.
