Seriously...

Okay. I purchased an ivory lace sheathe, very simple, with hints of gold, to wear to Brianna's wedding. It was actually Brianna who suggested ivory as a possible color to complement the pink sheathe dress that Buddy's mother is wearing. Tim's mother is making an alteration for me. She looked rather shocked and said that it looked like a wedding dress. Now I'm worried. Taking a poll. Is ivory an inappropriate color for the mother of the bride to wear at a wedding? I got it at the Goodwill for $4.99, so it will not break the bank to not wear it. WHAT DO I DO? Tell me before I buy shoes. And now Bob has pointed out that I'll need a purse too.

Gadzooks, but this is nerve wracking.

Ivory is just fine -- just don't outshine the bride.

What does the bride think? She is the one who should have the final say. And it might not be the colour but the lace part that is bothering Tim's mother.

Yeah, okay. NW? If there's the slightest possibility that the dress is inappropriate, I'm not wearing it. I wish that I were clever enough to think these things through on my own.

Like I said, ivory is fine, but the lace may be why your MIL is bothered.

You'll feel better if you look around for alternatives. There should be lots of options in the stores right now because they'll have their spring lines in. Do you have any neutral pumps to wear?

Poor you. I can feel your pain from up here in the Great Frozen North! I hate clothes shopping.

If the bride picked it out, you like it, GO WITH IT! Have fun. Don't panic! "Don't worry, be happy!"

I am unqualified to give any advice on this one.

Can you find a pashmena/shawl/stole to wear with the dress?
It will immediately tone down the lace (if the lace is what's upsetting the MIL) will give you another hue to match shoes with (without getting a purse, I use a backpack, too lol, def not a wedding accessory) and will provide a little warmth when Spring can still chuck a chilly day (and when churches can be under-heated).

I am sure you will look lovely in that dress, Deb, and if Brianna is happy with it, go right ahead and enjoy her day with her. I wore something creamy to Jeanie's wedding with a pinkish/greyish scarf. If it looks nice, be happy with it and add accessories to change the look as you want. I would hate to have to go out dress-shopping again at this stage.
I hope you all have a lovely day.
Love and Best wishes for it Barb

Wish I was near. I could loan you a clutch to use (instead of your backpack!). Know anyone you can borrow one from??

Mom, don't panic... the dress sounds beautiful, and I don't mind! Look at it this way, it'll complement Nancy's dress AND my dress! You should wear that scarf you have... the purple-ish one? Didn't Bush Babe get it for you? That would match one of the colors for the wedding, and tie the whole package up in a nice, tidy little bow! : )

HAve just found this post ... and I reckon if you liked this dress Deb, you should stick with it! I know you have another now, and perhaps Aussies don't get as hung up on tradition as Americans, but I have seen a MOTB in cream/ivory and they looked perfect. As long as it's 'you'...

Please stop stressing... if Brianna is happy, then you should relax. *sends calming thoughts*

I should think it would be fine, especially if the bride is the one who suggested it.
