A Place of My Own

When the kids grow up and move on, well, a house gets empty places. Empty rooms full of memories and discarded furniture.
When computers are upgraded, the old one needs a place to go.

Maybe a comfortable old chair is not good enough for the living room.

Say you take that empty room maybe, and open it up and you add a mix match of old furniture, and you add a few of your own favorite things... Windchimes because I like windchimes.
My clock, because the ticking and chiming of a keywound clock is a soothing and comforting thing.

Add a few pictures of places I'd like to see some day...

...or maybe one or two that evoke something
Mr. Bean because he makes me laugh and he reminds me of the people who like to laugh with me...
Say I gather all of these things up and I put them all in one room, what do I have?
I have a quiet place to study. I have a little room to think in. To write in. To daydream in.
I have a room of my own.
And if you ever came to visit, you could borrow my little room, because I surely don't sleep there.

What a wonderful room that serves so many purposes: a place to dream, to write, to think undisturbed, even laugh -- at Mr. Bean! I love him too!

I was thinking today while out for a jog, thinking about your previous post, Debby, and the grade of an 83%. You know, you are just getting your feet wet, so to speak, just learning how to study for tests, what points are noteworthy enough to highlight, etc.. Before you know it, you'll be diving in headfirst and swimming ahead of all the others, and most likely, cheering them on! Trust me on this one.

I love the glimpse of YOU that seeing these pictures provides. I like the way you have the BB photo framed.

Yeah, a room with a ticking clock and a plastic Mr. Bean hovering over you would be way too high on the spooky scale at night. No sleeping there for sure.

I love a home that is *lived in*. One full of special pieces, useful things and things that just make you smile.

Great post... provides some insight into where you are doing all this magical thinking.

No, Red. It's mostly that I prefer to sleep where Tim does. (You're afraid of Mr. Bean????! Huh.)

Something about his smile reminds me of an evil clown who's watching children on a school playground when he really shouldn't even be there because he's due at the tent for circus practice.

But I give him props for the holiday episode when he put the turkey on his head -- that was undeniably funny.

You're a fan of Mr. Bean? I knew we were kindred spirits! Remember the cough drop in church? Now I have the giggles...

Give that room some time...it will evolve into something like my sewing/office room...full of lotsa stuff..important stuff...piles of papers and lessons and projects, etc. I manage to keep the bed clean and made up but the desk is a lost cause. lol

You've kept your empty rooms nice and neat. Ours have filled up with all kinds of stuff.

Gees, RedLefty - You know we're talking about Mr. Bean here, not PeeWee Herman (shudder). The turkey was funny, and so was the cough drop in church. But I love the one where he's sitting on a bench in the park making his sandwich. I also think that he and the high diving board at the public pool is about the funniest thing ever. But then I think of the one when he's taking the test and...

Okay. Back on topic. You're really afraid of MR BEAN?!!!

Oh. And Bill? This is the room with the gift closet. I just got Christmas stuffed back into the closet. It is also one of two guest rooms, so, yeah, I try to keep it neat. Just in case we get company, but it's not. Not always.

Ooohhh - just discovered this post (I musta missed it!) and spotted your ironbarks in the afternoon print... love the frame. And I LOVE knowing where it is... is it weird that I get such a kick out of seeing where my calendars go, where a scene I snapped sits on someone else's wall?

*sigh*
:-)
