Speaking in Tongues

Well, I laughed my way through Bushbabe's post about Vegemite this morning. Laughed my hind end off. Someday, I'll give that Vegemite a little try. Over at her sister's blog, Jeanie was talking about the great Tim Tam dilemna/dilemma. I had to google Tim Tam right away, and they do look like tasty little things (unlike vegemite...sorry BB, but it's the truth...). I was a bit mystified as to why any person would stop to quibble about spelling in the face of FREE COOKIES FOR A YEAR! Jeanie informed me that they were NOT cookies, they were biccies. (what the heck is a biccie...)

Oy.

The two of them...it's like they live in a foreign country or something, the rosy cheeked little Tim Tam eating vegemites.

To my American ears, that sounds quite like a dandy little epithet...

Oh, oh. I know this. A biccie is a cooky. Sort of. There are biccie's and there are cookies, and the 2 are different, but I don't quite know how. I just know what constitutes a biscuit, and what constitutes a cooky.

Hi, Debbie, I don't have breast cancer but at thirty four I had a very rare form of ovarian cancer. I am in a medical book somewhere, "we had one of these here." Last month I turned 61 and am still going strong, God willing and the creek don't rise! You can and will put cancer in it's place, not in your body! Hang in, breathe deep, and visualization is good, really really good.

Hi Deb, just got home last night and got your birthday card today - thankyou for that and yes, THE FOOT OP is going really, really well. Thanks for those good wishes also.

Have been thinking of you often while I was away - not long to go now anyway and I hope things are getting under control a bit for you!

I am sure Cara is a blessing for you, as are probably all your children in their own ways - we all need loving don't we? And maybe - financial aspects aside, I don't know - not having to just turn up for work may be some of the rest your body will need for a bit. I do hope it all sorts out for you and I go along with AG Peach's comment above on the visualisation above - good, really really good. I cannot recommend it enough for any situation.

We will be away again I think (FOOT checkups) when you have your scan but BB will keep me up to date.

Hugs and love to you and your family Barb

HA! Actually I am pretty sure that biccies and cookies are the same thing (except Aussie say the first one and Yanks say the second one... and as we are being rapidly Americanised, we are clinging to our little idiosyncracies!). Biccies can be either sweet or salty though... perhaps thats the difference?

And as for vegemite, I think you lot are just so used to have something SUPER sweet on your bread/toast for breakky, that you cannot cope with something different. Heh...

And Tim Tams... oh my! They are the most sinful things ever... but you gotta learn to shoot them with coffee... another post for another day!!

Oh, Debby, the thing about Vegemite is that it depends how you spread it. One does NOT eat it spread thickly, it tastes like a cattle salt lick like that. I would serve it to you spread very thinly and scantily on a cracker with butter, and see if you can tolerate it like that first. It can be an aquired taste....

But Tim Tams (swoon) are usually popular from the get-go. Although 'shooting them' with coffee is disgusting to me. Each to their own. I'll wait for you to see the post by Bushbabe on what 'shooting' involves.

Yes, it is all another dialect. Wouldn't life be boring if we were all the same?

Ah Deb - the reason that TT's aren't cookies is that they aren't round and cooked - they are delicately put together with the most awesome mix of mmmmm and oh-yumms and therefore fall into the larger (and more international) category of bics.

Laura Jane - a friend of mine did not like coffee (still doesn't) and she used to throw back with hot chocolate.

Oh now I understand, Jeanie. mmmmmmmmmm and oh-yumms certainly make all the difference. Believe me, I will be looking for Pepperidge Farms offering this fall, and although I rarely buy their products (too pricey - I know Jeanie will totally get that...) I am going to invest in Tim Tams because now I'm curious. The vegemite will have to wait.

And Laura Jane, I do love that we are all different. Makes blog reading a lot more fun. If anyone has any doubt, please be clear that my Australian friends are simply taking the mickey this time around. (Next time, it will be me, I've no doubt).

Oh. If you don't 'get' that, BB has a 'Strine dictionary' over at her blog.
