Tim was cutting a windfall for firewood. Suddenly, he was in the back door calling for us to get
our cameras, and to keep the dog in. I thought perhaps he'd seen the first bear of the season (for
us, anyways) but no. It was something even more deer.

Probably no older than 24 hours.

Look at those sweet eyes.

Size comparison: about the size of an American football.

Tim almost missed it.

Can you see why?

How precious!

That is very cute - I think superior to puppies, in that it is very unlikely to chew your shoes or resort your laundry.

Awww is right!

Isn't that just the cutest thing! All we get around here is rats, not quite the same level of cuteness.

FF - Definately cuter than rats!
Jeanie - While they do not chew your shoes or rearrange your laundry, you can't pet them or even touch them. Bummer!

I just loved watching it. He stared back with such calm eyes.

Wow... that is absolutely gorgeous. Breath-taking... my kids would have adored seeing that! Puppies have started some of that un-cute behaviour, but somehow still manage to stoke up the awww-factor whenever they think they're in strife.

Thanks for sharing this amazing moment Deb... did the mom come back for it??

Yes, BB. The fawns are routinely left hidden as the moms graze. Their camouflage makes them fairly safe. Tim was running a chainsaw, working within 50 meters of this one before he realized it was even there. It was breath takingly tiny. That boofy puppy 'Mine' probably would dwarf the thing.

Amazing and beautiful. Babies--human and animal--are so amazing. And deer are such beautiful animals to watch. Thanks for sharing!
